The cooking time for your asparagus is going to vary just a bit depending on the size of the asparagus spears and the number of them you wish to cook. The other variable is your personal taste.

Fill the bottom of a double boiler or steamer with about 1 in (2.5 cm) of water. Then, place a little water in the plastic steamer, pop it in the microwave and set to cook on auto cook (if you have that facility) or if not use your own common sense / read the good old manufacturers instructions etc. Depending on how thick the spears are, this should take around 3 minutes.

And of course, any time you’re working with a microwave the size and the wattage can throw things off a bit. Place steaming basket into the pot and then the asparagus. When cooking asparagus, you can tie them into little bundles, which makes them easier to remove.
